Gismonda is a famous poster created by the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha in 1894. This work is often regarded as the beginning of the most significant period of Mucha's career and marks his rise to fame as a master of Art Nouveau. Gismonda was commissioned to promote the play of the same name, performed by the renowned actress Sarah Bernhardt at the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Paris. Bernhardt was an iconic figure in theater at the time, and Mucha often collaborated with her afterward. The poster is notable for its elongated composition, delicate colors, and ornamental details, including floral motifs and arabesques.
